Audacity of Hypocrisy: Volume XIV

Despite the beautiful speech the night of his South Carolina victory where he proclaimed that he "didn't see a black South Carolina or a white South Carolina." Well apparently since times are getting rough in Pennsylvania, his campaign have put on glasses that allow him to see the tint of people's skin color more clearly.

Here's the link:http://www.thetartan.org/2008/4/7/news/o bama

But the pertinent part is as follows:

While the crowd was indeed diverse, some students at the event questioned the practices of Mrs. Obama's event coordinators, who handpicked the crowd sitting behind Mrs. Obama. The Tartan's correspondents observed one event coordinator say to another, "Get me more white people, we need more white people." To an Asian girl sitting in the back row, one coordinator said, "We're moving you, sorry. It's going to look so pretty, though."

"I didn't know they would say, `We need a white person here,' " said attendee and senior psychology major Shayna Watson, who sat in the crowd behind Mrs. Obama. "I understood they would want a show of diversity, but to pick up people and to reseat them, I didn't know it would be so outright."

Re: Audacity of Hypocrisy: Volume XIV (2.00 / 3)

As I just said in the other diary on this issue, I don't see the big deal.

Campaigns want to target specific groups, and so put those people on the stage to demonstrate their importance to the campaign and to show that others in a given group support the campaign.

All campaigns do it.  Remember in Iowa when Clinton was surrounded by all those politicians from the 90s and then, in New Hampshire, it was suddenly a LOT different?

It's about projecting an image, and the supporters of a campaign may mean as much to some people as the candidate him/herself.

I didn't care when Hillary did it.  I don't care that Obama does it.

Re: Audacity of Hypocrisy: Volume XIV (none / 0)

Or the plethora of times that Bush did this with members of the armed services.. that was a hoot.

Love the fact that people read so much into what is behind the candidate.. like the oldie but goodie (also employed by Bush)

"Plan For Victory"

when in fact, not only did he not have one, but he would not know one if it came up and bit him in the ass.

our president, <sigh> real man of genius.

Re: Audacity of Hypocrisy: Volume XIV (none / 0)

Good point. I remember that the crowd behind Hillary became noticeably younger in New Hampshire than it was in Iowa.
But we all should be savvy enough to know that campaigns try to manipulate the press just as much as anyone, it's really not a big deal.

Again (2.00 / 1)

This is all you can summon to slam Obama with, your last diary was a better hit piece.  Oh and nice title.

PS what are you going to do when we have a nominee (who is over 85% likley to be Sen. Obama).  Where will you take you Obama hate then?  RedState?

PS.  I have said that I think Sen. Clinton will be a perfectly fine GE candidate, I just prefer Sen. Obama.

Why does this matter? (2.00 / 1)

And what does this have to do with "hypocrisy"? Does this mean there's something wrong with advertisers who are careful to have an assortment of whites, African Americans, and other minorities in their commercials? Sorry, but I don't see what the problem is.

Even John McCain lusts after teh engels.

Thus by implication you agree that Obama is just like any politician.

Didn't we just have a diary on this same subject? All the campaigns do this. If you have a problem with Senator Obama doing it then you should be critical of Senator Clinton and Senator McCain and... well, every Presidential campaign since whenever they started having supporters stand behind the candidate.

McCain (and Clinton) (2.00 / 1)

Its funny you mention McCain - remember all the crap he was getting from the media early on b/c he was always surrounded by older people... and now he tries to 'stack the deck' with young folks. Its politics.

I witnessed it at an event and I have to admit I did think it was a little disingenuous...but its not like they are on the street pulling people in at Obama rallies to make sure they show diversity....the people are already there. In fact, Politico had a mini-story about paid sign-wavers...

Re: McCain (and Clinton) (none / 0)

Interesting. I had read somewhere that the Clinton campaign got hit early from relying mainly on paid staffers over volunteers but I thought that had been changed by the time of that article, maybe not.

I think the complaint against McCain was that he was surrounding himself with a bunch of old white guys from days gone by in the Republican party. The same criticism was leveled at Senator Clinton after she lost Iowa. That night she just had a bunch of people from the Clinton administration on stage with her. While they do harken back to better days for the nation they don't exactly embody change or a new direction.

Re: McCain (and Clinton) (none / 0)

To be fair, a large percentage of Obama advisors used to work for the Clinton administration, not a lot of change there for anti-clinton Obama supporters.

Are the other 13 volumes as thin as this one?
